I am interested in Ken Bull's memories of the Oxpens in 1939. Could you please get in touch as the Friends of Oxpens Meadow are anxious to meet people who remember the neighbourhood before and during World War II.

good luck in your endeaourss to prseerve the recreation field it was known as wellers field when i played there in 1939 there were swings slide and rounabout
There was a stream which cut the field in two and contained a bathing area there were air raid shelters which were out of bounds.Try telling that to a bunch of kids. Some where i have an old map which shows the bathing area i must find it good luck in your fight

Hi Marina,

I don't live in St Ebbe's anymore, but my best wishes go with you in trying to retain and protect Oxpens Field. It is with a heavy heart that I consider returning to Oxford to stroll along the river and find a whole morass of identikit houses and bad ceremonial efforts that look exactly like the "artist's impression".

As for SENDRA, god knows. Turn up to one of their meetings I suppose.

If you claim "8 parallels", you really should iterate them.

*

The current Town Green application has been badly organised by il Duce. I am Secretary of the newly-
resurrected Riverside Court Residents' Association,
and when this whole Neroification project (you need
to go back further than the "Renaissance" to find those who would find a city teeming in tenements and want to leave it full of Monuments to Visionary Leadership) began to gather pace in the West End, I ensured that the Administrator's documents contained a note to the effect that Oxpens Field was de facto a Village Green
due to the 60+ years of recreational use.

I have the Administrator's emailed documents summing up the Public Consultation Exercise and thus acknowledging that the (then) plan for a Unitary Oxford+Oxfordshire Council office site on railway land had to allow for balloon ascents and other recreational fun alongside
(thus limiting the height of the buildings: the water table limits their depth).

And yet... and yet... we on the South Side of the River cannot find out how to contact anyone in SENDRA. A judge is likely to be unamused by evidence sprung on the hearing. Oh, well.
